How to speak Australian

OK people lets have a class here for once shall we. Today i shall teach you guys about Aussie Slangs and pronunciation which means this is not a picture post but a WORD post. So if you don't want to read it then shoo.

Ok so lets start with the slang first shall one

(1) Nick Off -eg. Siew Kim just "nick off" from class; so the meaning is run off or left
(2) Barbie -eg. Lets have a "barbie" tonight (not barbie doll ok); it means BBQ
(3) mozzie -eg. Shit that stupid "mozzie" just bit me; means mosquitoes
(4) ambo -eg. Haih its the "ambo" siren again; means ambulance
(5) cheers -eg. "Cheers" mate; means bye guys
(6) Mate - refers to friends generally, boys and girls
(7) cuppa -eg. i would like to have a "cuppa"; means a cup of tea
(8) whinger -eg. That person is such a "whinger"; means a person who whines a lot
(9) get stuffed -eg. Oh why not you just "get stuffed"; means to shut up or get lost
(10) in the shit/poo -eg. Did you know Yu gin is "in the shit" laaaaaa; basically it means yu gin is in deep shit which means in trouble

Ok next we shall go for 5 basic pronunciation

(1) how old are you is pronounced as how ol dare you(link the d to are and pronounce it like are but with a d in front)
(2) do you have any drug allergies as diu have any dru gallergies(they shorten do you to one word which sounds like what i typed and yep link the g of drug to allergies and pronunce it)
(3) Does this pain affect your sleep as duhcyst pain affect chore sleep(again they shorten it so does and this is pronounce as one and your is pronounce as chore)
(4) How many times did it happen as how many times didit happen(they shorten it again)
(5) have you ever smoked in the past as have you ever smoked in d past(here the is shorten and pronounce to d)

Well this all for aussie pronounciation and slangs. Oh and they like to use the word "reckon" too. Example: What do you reckon or I reckon this is not what it seems to be. It actually means i think.

Hahahahaha enough of english lesson for a day.

Glenelg Beach

The next thing i would like to blog about is the beach here in Adelaide. The most famous beach in Adelaide is calleg Glenelg beach where again you know what the caucasian culture are........ drink till you drop that kinda thing. Well the beach is busy just like any other tourist destination, the difference is the weather is not hot. The temperature was around 20-19 degree celsius and guess what a bunch of us wore short pants and some wore ultra short pants out to the beach where there is big wind, making everyone feel so cold. Heck i actually wore a T-shirt which is more suitable for Malaysia weather and hot summer together with Shorts. So i was one of those people freezing away when i was at the beach. We took the Tram from Victoria Square (the nearest station from our accomodation) all the way to Moseley Square which is the last stop. And so we walk for say 1KM+++ to the station under the cold sunny weather.

A bunch of "Jakun" people Jay Walking

Oh by the way if you are caught Jay walking (don't know if the spelling is right) which means crossing the road not at the designated crossing area or cross when it shows red (which as Malaysian we do that all the time) the police can fine you for AUD 200..... OUCH

Me taking Pic in front of my Accomodation

One of those balconies there is my room (which is facing the main road)

So as mention we took the tram at Victoria Square all the way to the last station called Moseley Square.

Victoria Square

Here comes the Tram

Saw the sign, it says "Glenelg Moseley Square". Well the tram took us pass the suburb of Adelaide and the houses are so nice (sorry did not take picture of the suburb) and finally we reach the beach which was windy and COOOOOOOOLD. So we took pictures there, flipping around, jumping around like monkeys and did i told you about the wind. It is so cold when the wind blows and Aida was like almost blown off hahahahahaha. Things didn't help when almost all of us were wearing short pants and t shirts. Some brought jackets but unlucky me was freezing.

Glenelg Beach

The cold wind

Well we basically did nothing there. It was too cold to do anything. The wave was rough too but i still saw some people swimming at the ocean. It was so cold that some of us went and look for a shade not from the sun but from the wind. I was one of them. Can't stand it anymore.

By 8 something we decided to head back but i was yearning for ice cream (i know the cold weather and the ice cream don't really mix but i want to have some ice cream) so we went McDonald and get the cone ice cream which is sold in Malaysia for RM1++

The ice cream cost around 0.70cent for chocolate and chocolate mix with vanilla and 0.50 cents for vanilla which i think is reasonable.

After savouring the Ice cream we decided to head home and the temperature drop to 19degree celsius with strong wind. AAAARGH COLD!

Glenelg beach at around 8.40pm. Well as the night draws nearer i bet it gets more pack with people. Even when we were on our way to the beach a bunch of people came on the same tram we were taking and they were making a hell lots of noise, excited with the after night party.

Ok i think i shall stop here. Next stop Adelaide Zoo i wanna see the Pandas

Adelay

Blogging live from Adelaide and I have spend one week now in Adelaide (am surviving though i am still home sick sometimes) and I have started my bridging course..... well who wants to know how it goes, i think most of you guys would want to know how is Adelaide like. To sum it i can say the city centre if compared to KL is pretty small like small small if you know what i mean. We can just take a bus and go all the way to the city centre for free and the Uni itself is at the city centre though the hospital is not.

So far the people here in Aussie are nice and warm. Example when you pay at the counter they always say "Hi there how are you?" which really caught me by surprise cause i don't know if i should answer them or ignore them, so far i answer back saying i'm fine and after paying and getting my change i would usually say "thank you" which they would say too hahahahaha.

Shopping here well there is only one in the city centre called Rundle Mall. I'll show you the pictures and see if you still want to call it a mall or not cause i don't really get it.

Yep the above pic is what Adelaideans call their shopping street Rundle Mall. But to me it is a Street like Petaling Street in KL. We don't call it Petaling Mall do we, we call it Petaling Street, but they call it Rundle Mall....... well cultural differences i dare say. Anyway to avoid confusion i am calling it Rundle cause i still can't call it a Mall yet. To me a mall is fully air conditioned not in open space that kinda thing.

So far Adelaide have been a pleasant place apart from the Home sick i have i think it is really nice. Of course i am not here for vacation so i think most of the time i would be stuck in my room and mugging all those books i need to read.

I think that is all folks next post i put out more pictures cause i think most of my picture is in Facebook. Oh by the way Yu Gin the temperature maybe high but i am definately not roasted ok hahahahaha.

P.S. hopefully i can get my "real" internet connection soon then i can Skype home, really miss my family and my cute lil doggy and of course i miss you guys too.

On the eve of my departure

Guess what i went Pavillion again, the perfect paradise for shopaholic to shop for Gucci, Prada, Chanel etc.... but don't worry i am not there to shop just went there for movie (i'll never buy Gucci, Prada or Chanel unless money fall from heaven for me).

So on the very eve before i left for Aussie, i went to Pavillion with...... Ren Ping lo. She is the only one free enough to layan me. Others are so busy in Seremban for their ward rounds so it is always Ren Ping and me going out for movies. I took this session as my official farewell with her lo since i would not be around when she leave for Aberdeen.

Pavillion as a shopping paradise sure is nice and great. Everything in it is so high class, even the food are expensive. The cheapest would be the food court, Pizza Hut, KFC or any other fast food. Since i am a poor med student where every cents count, i suggested to eat at the food court in Lot 10. My mum read about the food court there which sell all the famous hawker food or more like all those famous hawker food out there open up a stall in the food court and guess what it sure is one hell of a food court.

The food court is like a maze. Food stall are scattered everywhere. So when Ren Ping and i went looking for food separately we were lost unable to find each other. Ren Ping said she was lost in a Maze of Food (if only this maze of food comes free). In the end we found each other sat down and get our respective food.

The Dim Sum we ordered (so expensive, must be the rent)

Siew mai another expensive dim sum we ordered

my bowl of Asam Laksa (sweet taste, no sour or spicy)

Ren Ping's food i forgot what it is called in cantonese. Ask her if you wanna know it is good or not?

So after lunch we walked back to Pavillion to catch our movie, Avatar. Heard it was a good movie, though at first i thought it was a cartoon or something. We watch it in 3D so we paid 19 bucks each (OUCH) for the movie. The difference between 3D and the normal movie we watch in theatre.......... i don't see the difference. Since this "watching movie in 3D" is a one time thing for me, i guess i will not waste extra money for it anymore. I thought the 3D would be much more real but it looks the same to me. Nonetheless this is my opinion, i think everyone should try the 3D movie themselves and see if they like it. Ren Ping was worried that she will puke and so was i, so i suggested that if i were to puke i will puke into the popcorn box hahahahaha.

So this is it my last outing here in Malaysia, Pavillion KL, food and movie.

Happy "Belated" New Year

Ok i know it is a lil late to post something about new year, so i added an additional word for the title of this post, but hey this is my first post for the year 2010 so i think it is still consider a new year new post for my blog (besides i was busy on new years day so no time to post a new year post). Anyway with the coming of January means my holidays are going to be over and i will be leaving for Aussie soon. So my new year wish is that i could do well in Adelaide (despite not studying much) and pass every exam i am going to have, major and end of posting exam (whatever they call it there as long is exam i wish i could pass), stay healthy and hope that i would strike the lottery and get rich all of a sudden so that i can sponsor my studies without using my parents' money.

As for new year resolution...... geez i never thought of it. Maybe one of it is to learn swimming (cross my finger i got time to do that there and i would get a friend who is willing to teach me swimming or not i will have to learn with the kids). As it is a resolution so one doesn't necessary have to fulfil them as we only hope we can fulfil them, therefore if i have to learn swimming with kids, i'll pass (i rather drown). Any other new year resolution....... nope not that i can think of. So lets go with this one resolution first, will update more when i can think of any.

Next, as in every new year we recall back all those memorable events, happenings and dramas that occur throughout the year. So the most memorable events for me is when we graduated from phase 1 in IMU. Time sure fly and now we are in our clinical years. No longer are we the innocent med student struggling with those anatomy and pathology jargons (and of course we look old in front of all those new comers too). Other memorable events such as studying in library for EOS 5, EOS 5 itself which is a torture, IMU Ball, and of course how can we forget Qian Hui's Birthday celebration where she "ahem" kiss "ahem" someone "ahem". Maybe i can post those picture when she finally got a husband with kids. Remind her of her most fond and memorable birthday celebration ever hahahahaha. I think that is all for now. Happy New Year everyone. Keeo in contact ar.
